The Federation of County Cork Gun Clubs is the regional body that represents and promotes Cork’s local groups
The Cork federation is a fully-insured member of the National Association of Regional Game Councils, and its committee is drawn from local clubs to ensure that their views are well-represented.
We support the work of local gun clubs and serve as their representatives at the national level, feeding back information on grants, policy changes and other issues to Cork gun clubs and their members.
We support the development of restocking and conservation projects, and we also work on regional policy to help ensure the smooth running of local clubs. A recent project saw the federation develop an interlocal club code of conduct which all member clubs have agreed to abide by. The federation oversees the arbitration procedure for interlocal club disputes, and generally acts as an honest broker when disputes arise.
Our History
The initiative was provided by Waterfall & Bishopstown Game Re-stocking Association whose Chairman, Mr. Con Finn, issued an open invitation to all the then known gun clubs and game protection associations in County Cork to attend a meeting with a view to bringing into being an association, federation, or similar body.
The Cork Federation of Gun Clubs was designed to cater for the needs of the shooting and conservation organisations whose aims and objectives with regards the sport of shooting and conservation were similar, and whose members realised that – unless steps were taken to form a countywide organisation capable of safeguarding the sport of shooting, game and wildfowl and their habitat – their future would be in serious jeopardy.
The founding organisations were, Waterfall & Bishopstown G.R.A., Munster Game Protection Association, Bandon Game Protection Association, Little Island, Knockraha and District Gun Clubs, Mitchelstown Gun Club, Mourneabbey Gun Club, Charleville Gun Club, Kilmacoom G.P.A., Ballymartyle & Riverstick G.R.A., Newmarket Gun Club and Kanturk Gun Club.
The Federation is concerned with sporting-shooting, particularly in respect of rough shooting and wildfowling. It is also concerned with the conservation and legal protection of game birds, wildfowl, and other wild birds.
It has a President, a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Hon. Secretary, Hon Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Safety Officers,PRO and affiliated organisations. For contact details, see our contacts page.
